Universal drum catch

Designed with versatility in mind, the unique STS drum catch can handle, among others, tight-head, open-top, L-ring and MAUSER-style drums with ease; to adjust the catch setting operators simply adjust the position of the top hook. For lifting very unusual drums such as plastic screw-top drums, or bulbous plastic barrels we can offer different attachments and adapters for our drum lifters. See our drum suitability document for more information on compatible drum types or alternatively please get in touch.

Stainless-steel ladder rack

The ladder rack is where the drum gripping catch is mounted on the front of the drum lifter. By affixing the catch in different positions, the unit is able to easily cater for drums of different heights. Moving the catch up and down is easy and allows one unit to be used for all drum lifting activities. Should drums need to be lifted onto higher platforms such as custom containment bunds or other machinery, we can offer taller lift heights and therefore taller ladder racks to suit.

Rear-wheel steering

Counterbalance drum lifters contain metal shot in the rear of the unit to offset the weight of a heavy drum being lifted at the front of the unit. Due to the increased weight of a counterbalanced truck (vs a straddle drum lifter) it is important that the steering assembly is designed to make moving the unit as easy as possible. The single wheel steering and low rolling resistance wheels make pushing and pulling this drum lifter easy for operators of all sizes.

Manual hydraulic lift pump

Each hydraulic pump is manufactured by hand in the UK. Quality components are used making the pumps extremely reliable and long-lasting. On a stainless steel drum lifter, the pump assembly is shrouded in stainless steel, this protects it from water ingress and other debris found in the work environment. The pump is operated by hand by pulling an upright lever back and forth. The operation of the pump is easy and the force required to lift a drum is low; this means the drum lifter can be used by all staff with ease. Drums can be lowered back down in a controlled manner by turning a manual control valve.

Safe working load (SWL) and drum lifting capacity

We can offer this unit in two configurations depending upon the weight of the drums being handled and the amount of available space. A 250kg model can be provided, this is the most popular option; alternatively, we can supply a 350kg model which is 230mm longer overall. The reason we do this is that some commercial spaces are tight and hence a longer drum lifter may not fit in the area. All our drum lifters are overload tested in our UK factory to 150% of the load capacity demonstrating how strong, stable and compliant they are.

Drum suitability

The Counterbalance Drum Lifter can lift a wide selection of drum types and sizes, which is useful if your company uses different drum types in different areas. For details about the drums with which this product is compatible, please review the drum suitability document below. If any drums you use are not shown in the specification, contact us and we can offer advice and guidance relating to these drums.

ATEX / UKEX-certified model for Zone 1, 2, 21 and 22 (optional)

As with all our drum handling equipment, we can offer ATEX and UKEX-certified equipment for use in hazardous zoned areas. Our 'Ex' rated drum lifters are suitable for use in zones 1, 2, 21 and 22. Each unit is designed to ensure that a path to ground is always present; this is achieved by utilising anti-static wheels and earthing chains. Our ATEX / UKEX equipment is supplied with a Declaration of Conformity which states compliance with the directives and relevant British and ISO Standards.
